Arriving in the US....mini drama....

Morgan, Kristoffer and Mundi the day the boys left WA
We had a lovely relaxing Saturday at home before Stuart, Morgan and Joshuah flew out late Saturday evening. We had a minor setback due to a fire near the Kwinana Freeway, causing a bit of a traffic buildup.  Fortunately they reopened the road as we approached the area and we were the first car to get through..... with a police escort!!  They left Perth on a 40C day, dressed in T shirts, shorts and thongs (can we say that in America??).
Stu catching 2 crabs for Jen out in the backyard, before he flies out!

All was going well for the weary travellers until they arrived in Washington, where they were met by large numbers of New Year travellers.  Needless to say, their baggage was the last to come off the carousel and by the time they got their bags,  the gates had closed for their flight to Denver.  Alternate plans were made with United Airlines and they will now be arriving in Denver at 11.30 am, Monday morning as this was the only flight they could get on. They had to wait for a shuttle bus to an airport hotel and it was freezing!!  Fortunately they had changed out of their boardies, t shirts and thongs and had put on some warmer attire for the trip to the hotel! One thing Stuart did mention was how lovely the airport staff were, compared with our experience of landing at LAX a few years ago!

Jakeb and I are travelling on the same itinerary as the boys, so we will be trying to change our connecting flight from Washington DC to Denver to a later flight.  We arrive the evening before Obama's Inauguration,  so Washington Airport will be heaving again.  On a lighter note, we may run into Barak, Michelle and the kids at the airport??

1 month before we leave.....

Nearly a year ago Stuart applied for teacher exchange and we were pleased he was accepted to teach in Denver, Colorado in 2013 for a year.  This was the start of a year of organisation on a grand scale! (and we are still organising)! I can finally say 5 of us are heading over to the US and we are now in the possession of 5 US Visa's...no mean feat!!  Stu will be teaching IT at an Elementary School....a stark contrast to being Principal for 23 years, but one he will embrace with great gusto!!  Jakeb will defer from UWA for 6 months and will spend that time travelling the US, having a good time and catching up with friends he has made while at UWA.  Morgan will be attending the University of Northern Colorado on student exchange for 6 months.....continuing his Bachelor of Sports Science.  Joshuah will be at High School for a year in the States and we hope the year for him will be a rewarding one.  Jennifer won't be working, so I will be organising where we will head off to each weekend and planning holidays!!  Kristoffer will continue to live in Derby, catching big fish and sharing enviable photos to entice us back to WA!!
