Driving to Montana....

When we left Vancouver Island we were still undecided as to how to get to Glacier NP in Montana....where we were planning on stopping for a few days. Stu had organised accommodation for about a week in Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP and then Grand Tetons NP.  As it is summer holidays and they are hugely popular places, finding somewhere to stay was a challenge. We had a few days before we were due there so thought we'd drive back across BC and drop down into Montana. It turned out it was a long weekend in BC, Canada and accommodation was at a premium for quick overnight stops..in fact one big town we stopped at had NOTHING available....so we had a change of plan and did our border crossing into Washington State.
Joshuah and Stuart want to know if we have been to the US more than once now.... as we have crossed back into it twice these holidays.  Joshuah is saying he has been to the US 3 times...Stuart more so.  Not sure if this is correct!
The country truly is magnificent....what I would expect from all the western movies I've seen (not that many) but I can imagine. We eventually pulled into this little town in Washington, along with bikies from all over the place, to find a hotel on the side of the road.....with a real character serving behind the front counter.  $60 a night and we had a great little room, but my favourite part of it was this painting on the brick work....
See I told you we were in the wild west!  Stu and I went for a quick drive out to some lakes the next morning and the views were divine.  The sun was a little harsh but the reflections and colours were superb.
I love the reflection of the boat in the water..these people had caught a couple of catfish, and it was only a small lake, so I wonder how quickly it gets fished out.
Before we knew it we had crossed into Idaho,
which is really narrow at the top and that is the area we were...we stayed the night at a place called Sandpoint. Again finding accommodation was a bit tricky.  It is very close to the US/Canada border and a huge tourist place, so very expensive.  Turns out John Butler Trio were also in Sandpoint that night and in fact seem to be following us across North America!
During our travels we have seen this sign often.  I'm curious...where are their hands and how are they carrying those bags???
Within hours of arriving in Idaho, we were leaving Idaho, and were at the Montana border....and about to visit my favourite US state!
