My, oh my, Montana........Glacier NP

Be aware...this post will contain many, many photos of a magnificent State.....Montana has turned out to be my favourite State in the US.
We had a night booked at a place called Whitefish Mountain Resort, (let me pre-empt this by saying the word "resort" is used very, very loosely in the US) which was pretty cheap and as we drove higher and higher up the mountain we were getting pretty excited.  Stu went to check in at the main office as Josh and I marvelled at the gorgeous "resort".  Turns out we were at the wrong place and had to head back down the mountain a little way to our "resort" which was a tiny room, no fridge, no airconditioning, no TV and the smallest bathroom possible.  It did include breakfast...which was again pretty ordinary...there was a disgusting mixture of potato, rice, bacon and flour and god knows what else, no toast, the sweetest cereal ever....and having to watch cartoons on the dining room TV!! Gotta love a Resort
So we weren't too disappointed to be checking out and made our way to the chairlift which was operating for the summer season.....

Next stop was Kalispell and we had great faith in Simon (our trusty GPS) to get us there.  He didn't disappoint, taking us on back roads, through fantastic country...hardly any other cars and a few homes and farms scattered around ....
we even found hail on the ground up here......
Montana is called "Big Sky Country" and I know why.  I could print a book of "Clouds in America"....the skies are amazing when you are out in the country.
We had to do some shopping before arriving at Kalispell and were pleasantly suprised to find that they put the Big Foot in the area to work.
Our accommodation in Kalispell is a heritage listed cottage and it was so nice to have a bright, open space to spend time in.
It was a 1 hr drive to Glacier NP, but as "per usual Montana", the drive there was lovely.  Stu and Joshuah went to the NP on the first day and did a 15km walk...up and down mountains...check it out!
Stu took on the challenge of a swim in another exotic US location...a glacier lake this time and here is the footage.....it was really, really cold as you will hear!
Stu swimming in a glacier lake...Glacier NP, Montana
The next day the 3 of us drove back up to the Park.  The road winds itself around the edge of the mountain going higher and higher.  A magnificent road structure. We spent the day up there and the sights were amazing.
This lake was filled with these stunning rocks...the water was so clear and I loved the contrast between the wet and dry ones.
You can see the road around the edge of the mountain, slowly getting higher and higher, giving motorists amazing views.....
but there was still so much to see in Montana...next stop...the National Bison Range........
